Commercial Manager

ABOUT THE POSITION

  • Support the Head of Commercial to build a strong, efficient and dynamic commercial team
  • Be an advocate of One KAEFER by driving team work, consistency and high standards across the team
  • Working closely with Head of Commercial to ensure consistency in ways of working across the area
  • Liaise and work with Senior leads across the business, providing support to the Head of commercial and Commercial Director when required
  • Support the commercial team with challenging work and monitor through to resolution
  • Instil commercial astuteness within the business units and develop lasting relationships with Business Unit, Senior leaders and Operational Managers
  • Support the Commercial team by understanding the contractual requirements of project documents including the roles and responsibilities of all involved
  • Where necessary attend high level commercial negotiation meetings and advise accordingly
  • Identify unacceptable terms and conditions and negotiate contracts with clients and third parties, and unacceptable wording in bonds, warranties and other guarantees
  • Monitor and maintain cost management for Business Unit, advising senior/operational management of commercial impacts
  • Driving consistency of successful valuation/commercial processes both pre and post Contract
  • Lead or provide commercial support to deliver good P&L results across a portfolio of Contracts or bids within the region
  • Deliver the pre and post Contract opportunity and risk process including mitigation of risk
  • Mentor Cost controllers and Quantity Surveyors with particular regard to the recovery of contract costs and claims / variations / compensation events
  • Ensure that direct reports are developed and understand contractual and commercial controls
  • Develop best practice strategies for further improving cash flows in this part of the business
  • Support post contract activity by delivering solutions to discrete post contract strategic issues
  • Liaise with the key customers, representatives and other 3rd parties on commercial issues, including the agreement of additional monies.

QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Strategic thinker
  • Strong stakeholder management
  • Strong financial management and controls
  • Understanding and applying commercial and financial principles and viewing issues in terms of cost, profits, markets and added value
  • Divisional P&L, Finance, Budgeting and contracts costing
  • Contract law
  • Contract experience, preparing valuations and claims for clients and subcontractors
  • Sub Contract Management
  • Cost / Value reconciliation
  • Previous experience in a Finance/Quantity Surveying
  • Bachelor’s or equivalent in Quantity Surveying
  • Self-starter who can drive projects through completion
  • Positive approach to embrace and implement change
