It’s KAEFER Health Week!
What You Need to Know:
At KAEFER UK & Ireland, Occupational Health sits within our People & Development department working closely with HSE.
What is Occupational Health?
Occupational Health helps us to:
Monitor how work may affect your health
Some roles involve exposure to noise, vibration, dust, chemicals or other workplace risks
Understand how your health may affect your work
Certain medical conditions can increase risk when carrying out safety-critical tasks such as working at
height or in confined spaces.
Why is Occupational Health important?
While carrying out OH activities help KAEFER to comply with UK Health & Safety and Employment legislation. The purpose of this legislation is to keep you and your colleagues safe at work.
Key Occupational Health Activities
- Health Surveillance
Health surveillance is a programme of regular health checks tailored to the risks of your role.
This may include, Hearing tests, Lung function checks, Skin assessments, HAVS (Hand–Arm Vibration
Syndrome) checks, Asbestos medicals
These usually take place on site - Safety-Critical / Fit for Work Assessments
The majority of on-site roles require additional fitness checks to ensure you can safely carry out
higher-risk activities such as Working at height and Confined space entry
These assessments also usually take place on site - Management Referrals
A referral to Occupational Health may be arranged if:
─ You have been off work for a longer period
─ You have a new diagnosis or health change
─ You or your manager have concerns about your ability to safely perform your role
The purpose of a referral is to:
─ Understand your fitness for work
─ Identify any adjustments that might support you
─ Help you return to work safely and successfully
These assessments are typically carried out remotely, but onsite visits can be arranged if needed.
