As KAEFER Environmental Week comes to an end, we reflect on the effort we’ve seen across our projects and offices. This week, we’ve championed the small changes and big initiatives that help protect the planet and drive positive environmental impact.

Here’s a wrap up of the key topics and highlights from this year’s Environmental Week:

Net-Zero Targets Approved

The (Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) has officially approved KAEFER SE & Co. KG’s science-based near-term and net-zero emissions reduction targets.

As the first industrial services provider in our market to achieve this, it’s more than just recognition – it’s a commitment to a sustainable future and to empowering our clients in achieving their own decarbonization goals, guided by science.

Here’s where we stand:
📉 Near-term: 50.4% reduction in Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2032*
🥅Value Chain focus: 30% reduction in Scope 3 emissions by 2032*
0️⃣ Overall Target: Net-zero across the value chain by 2050
*The target boundary includes land-related emissions and removals from bioenergy feedstocks.

The urgency is clear, and we’re taking action where it matters most: in our operations, alongside our customers, and through collaboration with our partners. Addressing climate change is a strategic priority for us, and this approval fuels our ongoing efforts to transition to a net-zero future.

Cutting our Carbon – and keeping it going

At KAEFER UK & Ireland, we’re proud to share that in 2024 we achieved significant reductions in our greenhouse gas emissions:

✅ Scope 1 emissions (direct) down 14.5%

✅ Scope 2 emissions (energy indirect) down a huge 68.5%

These achievements result from focused efforts, including transitioning to green energy, enhancing efficiency across our sites, and optimising the use of our fleet and equipment. They also highlight the commitment of our teams who drive change every day.

Our Head of ESG, Sara Roberts, says:
“Lower emissions mean we’re moving closer to our long-term sustainability goals, but this is just the beginning. The challenge now is to keep pushing, innovating, and finding smarter ways to work with a lighter footprint.”

Launch of our Carbon Reduction Plan 2025

We’re excited to announce that KAEFER’s Carbon Reduction Plan (CRP) is now officially live, launched during KAEFER Environmental Week.

Building on our verified Science-Based Targets from 2024, the CRP sets a clear foundation with our 2023 emissions baseline and ambitious goals for the near and long term:

🌱 Near-term: 50.4% reduction in Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2032

🔗 Value Chain focus: 30% reduction in Scope 3 emissions by 2032

🌐 Overall Target: Net-zero emissions across our entire value chain by 2050

The CRP is more than just a plan, it’s a commitment to turning strategy into action. Immediate steps are already underway, including switching to 100% REGO/RGGO-backed energy, rolling out comprehensive ESG training, and implementing idling-reduction initiatives. These actions show how we’re moving forward, empowering our teams to make a tangible environmental impact.

Sustainable Energy in Action

At Shell Mossmorran, our KAEFER team are part of a site-wide initiative, turning what used to be waste into a powerful resource. Instead of letting scaffold sheeting pile up in landfills, waste is collected, shredded and transform into Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF). Packed into bales, this fuel heads off to Waste-to-Energy plants, where it sparks electricity that lights up homes and powers businesses. It’s a perfect example of how a small change on site can fuel a big leap toward a greener future.
