Mental Health Awareness Week

Mental Health Awareness Week

This week is Mental Health Awareness Week!

This year’s theme is ‘Action’ – taking action for yourself, for others, and for all of us.

Mental health affects us all.

This week is an opportunity for all of us to pause, reflect, and take action.

For Yourself

Looking after your own mental health is not a weakness, it is essential.

At KAEFER, support is available:

─ A network of trained Mental Health Champions who can offer support and guidance.

─ Our free, confidential Employee Assistance Programme (EAP), which provides access to professional counselling and advice.

─ Our Safe Space initiative (more information below).

Please use these supports whenever you need them – early support can make a real difference.

For Others

Small actions can have a big impact.

Last year we launched our Safe Space initiative, where colleagues across the business display a logo, sticker, or poster to show they are a Safe Space – someone who will:

─ Listen without judgement

─ Help a colleague access a Mental Health Champion

─ Stay with them until appropriate support is in place

You don’t need to have all the answers. Simply ask if someone is OK – and really listen. Let them know they are not alone.

For All of Us

Let’s continue working together to make KAEFER a safe space for everyone.

Mental health is still too often treated as a taboo subject. Everyday language and behaviours matter.

We have all heard phrases like…

…when referring to organisation or tidiness. While these may seem harmless, they can be deeply upsetting for someone experiencing mental ill health or living with conditions such as OCD.

Many people who experience mental ill health never seek help due to fear of stigma. By demonstrating a positive, respectful, and supportive attitude, we can create an environment where people feel safe enough to speak up and access the help they need.

This Mental Health Awareness Week, we encourage everyone to take action:

To celebrate Mental Health Awareness Week, our occupational health provider is hosting two wellbeing webinars for us, hosted by Victoria Davidson – Director of Wellbeing at HCML.

A Mental Health MOT

Mental health isn’t about waiting for a breakdown – it’s about knowing what the early signals mean. This practical webinar introduces a simple, relatable way to check in with your mental wellbeing, using the idea of a car dashboard and everyday “fuel” choices.

We’ll explore how your energy, emotions and pace show up, introduce the PLANS model, and focus on small, realistic actions that help you stay balanced and road‑ready at work and beyond.

A Convo with Mental Health Champions

Reaching out for support can feel like the hardest step – even when we know help is available.

In this panel discussion, members of our Mental Health Champion network come together to talk openly about their role, what colleagues can expect from a conversation, and how Champions support awareness and early intervention across the organisation.

This session offers the opportunity to hear real perspectives, ask questions, and better understand how Mental Health Champions can be a supportive presence on the wellbeing journey.
