Employee Spotlight: Samuel Norris

Meet Samuel Norris, who has just passed his electrical apprenticeship and is now a fully qualified Electrician for KAEFER UK & Ireland. Based out of the Hannington Works Facility, Samuel will provide support across the business.

We interviewed Samuel to learn more about what led him to choose an apprenticeship, hear about his experience in the role, and get his thoughts on what the future holds.

So Samuel, what made you decide to pursue an electrical apprenticeship?

“To improve my skill set and also to help provide job security by having additional skills.”

What has been the highlight of your experience so far?

“Learning new skills and interacting with site teams, as well as finally getting the pass certificate!”

Were there any challenges along the way, and how did you overcome them?

“The course itself was challenging, but even more so without the requirement for electrical works in my day-to-day role in the Asset department. But I got there!”

How did KAEFER support you during your apprenticeship?

“KAEFER has given me the time, expertise and support to help me achieve my goal. There were regular check-ins to make sure I didn’t require any additional support on top of what I was already getting.”

How does it feel to have completed your final assessments and become a qualified electrician?

“Pure relief!! But joking aside, it now gives me the tools I need to progress and succeed in my role.”

What advice would you give someone thinking about starting an apprenticeship at KAEFER?

“Do it! You will be fully supported along the way and at the end of the apprenticeship you will have grown as a person and gained valuable experience for the next steps in your career.”

What are you most looking forward to as you continue your career with KAEFER?

“To continue my development, gain experience and confidence along the way.”

Wayne Branighan, KAEFER’s Head of Asset Management and Samuel’s line manager, commented on his achievement:

“Congratulations to Sam, its a huge achievement and a milestone in personal development. Sam achieving his electrical qualification enables him and the team to provide vital support to the KAEFER business. His skills will strengthen our ability to respond effectively to reactive scenarios whilst driving proactive improvements across our operations.”

Fiona Craig, Emerging Careers Lead at KAEFER UK & Ireland, added:
“Apprenticeships like Sam’s demonstrate the commitment KAEFER has and continues to make to earn and learn positions.  Sam has demonstrated fantastic commitment to his apprenticeship over the last 4 years. Balancing learning with work isn’t always easy, but with the support of good mentors and the business’ greater focus on emerging careers we have greater capacity to make our earn and learn careers a success.  Well done again Sam, fantastic achievement.”
