Hannington Works Facility Officially Opens
KAEFER UK & Ireland has officially opened its newly expanded Hannington Works facility and scaffold yard in Gateshead, marking a significant investment in the company’s operational capability, infrastructure and people.
Now fully operational, the facility supports more than 200 live projects across the UK, supplying scaffold and plant equipment to major sites including Shell Mossmorran, Phillips 66, Devonport, Rosyth, Hinkley Point C and Equinor.

The site was officially opened with a ribbon cutting ceremony led by one of KAEFER’s longest-serving employees, David Eggleston. At 76 years old, David has worked for KAEFER in various roles over the last 45 years and now supports operations at Hannington Works maintaining plant and equipment in the workshop.
“David takes huge pride in his work and remains one of the most dedicated members of team. The care and attention he puts into preparing plant equipment for our projects is a great reflection of the KAEFER brand.“
– Wayne Branighan, Head of Assets
The Hannington Works team currently consists of 23 employees working across the yard, workshop and office facilities, helping to deliver scaffold and plant solutions to projects nationwide.
So far in 2026, the team has transitioned more than 5,200 tonnes of scaffold materials in and out of the yard, supporting critical operations across the energy, industrial, defence and nuclear sectors.
“This milestone is a testament to the hard work and perseverance of Wayne and his team, who have transformed Hannington Works into the well-organised, thriving hub of productivity it is today. The facility plays a vital role in supporting the smooth delivery of our scaffold projects across the UK.
Throughout the development of the facility, the team remained committed to supporting projects nationwide while continuing to drive improvements across the site. Their dedication, resilience and team spirit have been instrumental in making Hannington Works the success it is today, and everyone involved should be incredibly proud of what has been achieved.“
– Steve Corden, Operational Excellence & Technical Director
The expansion reflects KAEFER UK & Ireland’s continued investment in its people, assets and operational infrastructure, creating improved capability, increased capacity and a better working environment for teams supporting projects across the UK.
