Helping keep the GSK antibiotic supply chain flowing
Industrial services provider KAEFER has secured a project and maintenance services contract extension with GSK for their Irvine pharmaceutical facility.
The Irvine site supports the antibiotic supply chain for GSK by manufacturing ingredients for antibiotics belonging to a group of drugs called penicillins, used to fight bacteria in the body.
The KAEFER contract will support the GSK engineering department with project installation and ongoing day-to-day maintenance across electrical, instrumentation, scaffolding, insulation and surface protection. The engineering department supports the safety, quality and reliability of the sites critical 24/7 Production Operations.
The KAEFER team will also manage scaffolding, insulation, and specialist coatings support for the site: reducing downtime and ensuring asset protection. The contract, which begins in July 2021 will run for a minimum of three years.

KAEFER have provided scaffolding, insulation, and painting services to the site since 2010 and electrical and instrumentation support since 2018. “We have a successful track record at Irvine in delivering safe, quality, and efficient installation services in support of GSKs maintenance and project activities,” said Nick Walters, Divisional Director. “Our aim at KAEFER is to be the most reliable and efficient provider of technical industrial services and securing this contract extension after 11 years at the site is a great example of how we make this aim a reality.”
This contract extension means more than 50 skilled KAEFER family members will continue to support the Irvine site. KAEFER also support GSK at their Worthing, Ulverston and Barnard Castle sites.
