Magnox awards major decommissioning and asbestos removal contract

KAEFER UK & Ireland is proud to announce it has been awarded a six-year framework contract to meet the needs of the Magnox Ltd decommissioning programme across the UK.

“KAEFER UK & Ireland has been a proud supplier to Magnox for over ten years and we are delighted to continue to support the programme for the next six years with our asbestos removal, demolition management, and deplanting technical industrial services,” said Chris Foulkes, CEO, KAEFER UK & Ireland.

“We have a proven track record of delivering complex projects to both the UK’s decommissioning and nuclear new build programmes, and are committed to local roles and supply chains, developing close links with the local communities in which we operate: The Magnox framework gives us the chance to expand on this further and with a wider remit.”

Paul Winkle, Magnox chief operating officer said: “This new Decommissioning and Asbestos Removal (DAR) framework contract builds on the success of the previous one. It is a key, collaborative business tool that will provide an efficient, cost-effective route to market to decommission, demolish or re-use redundant buildings.”

“Magnox cleaned-up 23,000 m2 of asbestos and created a 7,400 m2 demolition footprint last year – that’s the collective size of 45 tennis courts. This is a significant achievement for the company and all the supply chain partners involved. We’re looking to deliver even more this year and the new DAR framework contract will simplify the procurement process to do that.”

KAEFER UK & Ireland have been awarded a framework contract for Lot 1, Nuvia Ltd on behalf of Metis have been awarded a framework contract for Lot 2, and Costain Ltd, Holdings Ltd and the Celadon Alliance have been awarded framework contracts for Lots 1 and 2.
