Successful Launch of our Period Dignity Initiative at KAEFER UK & Ireland

Members of KAEFER’s Supply Chain Team noticed the lack of period products in our head office toilets, spearheading this fantastic initiative – KAEFER UK & Ireland partnering with Hey Girls, the multi-award-winning period product social enterprise.

The initiative started with a successful six-month trial at our Jarrow head office, in which period products and relevant information were provided in both female and male toilets. Following this, the reach was extended to the female bathrooms of six other sites and offices across the UK – ensuring our female employees won’t be caught short at work again.

By having Hey Girls products (along with a ‘dad’s guide to periods’ pamphlet) available in Jarrow’s male toilets, we hope to open the conversation of periods between men and their daughters and allow our male employees to take period products home for any family members that may need them. And we have already had positive feedback from several individuals! One male employee explained that he would have valued the products and information when his daughter was growing up, as he was a single parent and found periods to be a difficult subject to navigate. Another male employee said he found the pamphlet useful and took products home to make them available to his daughter who he shared custody of.

Other positive comments received include:

‘Brilliant initiative and well-received’

‘Thank you for making this a more discreet time while in the office’

‘Fantastic idea!’

This amazing feedback proves the initiative is already having a positive impact amongst our employees and their dependants.

Partnering with Hey Girls contributes to KAEFER’s ESG goals. It means KAEFER is not only tackling period poverty for our employees, but that of the wider community too! Because for every product that KAEFER buys, Hey Girls donates the same to one of their community partners – youth groups, women’s centres, food banks, and homeless shelters. Additionally, their plant-based products are made from sustainably sourced bamboo and 100% certified organic cotton, that can be traced back to its original source. Other materials used include recycled cardboard, sugar cane and biofilm that is biodegradable within 6 months.

We hope to extend this amazing initiative even further across our UK & Ireland offices and sites in the near future.
